16 June 2012

Today is going to be short since I start my graves tonight.  I just have time to get my lunch ready for tonight, hit the commissary for some Buffalo Wing Chicken breast (I LOVE that stuff!) and get a nap.  I think I'm glad it's kind of a threatening day--weather-wise--because otherwise, I'd be tempted to get out and get some pictures--and miss a bunch of sleep.  Not a good way to start a set so I'm glad the weather is a bit naff.  I just have to wait on the dryer before I head out.

Down another lb this morning for a total of 48 lbs lost.  If I'm true to the recent pattern, I have maybe one more day before the next plateau, although, as I've probably mentioned before, if they weren't having me weigh every day, I'd probably never see the things.  But I'm (mostly) happy to do this their way, since I AM losing weight--and that is the whole point!

Since today is a PP (pure protein) day, I'm taking my oat bran pancake (the only excepion to the whole PP/PV thing), fat-free cottage cheese, prawns, Buffalo Wing Chicken, 1-2 grilled hamburgers from last night and Dukan devilled eggs in to work.  Probably way more food that I'll eat, but it's better than going hungry and being tempted by something bad!  Although I have to say, since I've been off sugar (and most processed foods) since 2 May, I haven't really had any cravings/ temptations.  Even chocolate doesn't look particularly interesting and I never thought I'd get to that point!

p.s.  I don't usually go back and re-visit (as in add additional comments to) my entries, but I thought this was too funny to pass up :-)  I've subscribed to lumosity.com and I do a bit of "brain training" every day.  Most of the time they just let me get on with it but today they sent me an e-mail to encourage my continued participation.  This e-mail also said:  "In a study of over 2,000 older adults, targeted cognitive training boosted performance in areas such as speed, reasoning, and memory. Adults who trained performed better on assessments compared to a control group; five years later, they still outperformed the control. Trained participants also self-reported being better at basic life skills such as housework, shopping, finance management, and more."

Improved housework!?  Now I do believe the bit about the benefits of training continuing--but I'm not real sure brain training is going to help my housework since on a good day I'm beyond rubbish at the whole process!  But I thought it was funny and I just had to add it.

  1. Gretchen, I am BEYOND IMPRESSED. I have read many of your entries since you introduced me to your blog but havent had the time to sit and type ( as I suck at typing) you some messages but tonight I am happy to take some ME time and do what I want to do and one of those things is to catch up on your bllog and send you a note. 48 pounds is freaking awesome. I cannot believe how you did that. That is really something to be proud of cause, lets face it- we all LOVE to eat and especially all the great things that are available today make it so easy for all of us to overindulge. Keep up the good work and you are going to be an inspiration for me to get back on track. I have been trying ( or saying Im trying) to lose about 20 pounds for the past 3 years and I cannot seem to get motivated. So for you to have already lost 48 is over the top fabulous. You just dont know how proud I am of you. I have been whooping it up over here in celebration for you. I will continue to follow your journey.

Speaking of which, I loved all the entries about your travels as well. The places you have been are breathtakingly beautiful and I'm always in awe of your travels. It was great to hear some more details. I am happy that you shared this blog with me so thank you for that.

We are in the middle of home fix up extrodinaire. I laughed when I read your comments about not liking to do housework. I have to admit I have an illness and that is I DO like to clean. I tell people sometime I could definitely be a cleaning lady. I actually enjoy it- most of the time. I guess its the satisfaction I get after its done that I like to see the end result. It doesnt always like me though. I have ar eally bad back and neck so I can never get all the things done as I like them. Also as Ive gotten older I am more relaxed about the place. It really doesn't matter if its always picked up but I am a person that cannot function in chaos. With all these home improvement projects we are doing now its driving me a little crazy. Im ready for it all to be done.

Oh well, I could go on and on but its late and my eyes are very tired. I will keep in touch and keep up the good work. I'll be checking back to see how you're progressing.

    Take care . Love, Linee

    1. Linee, Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the posts. I've been following your pictures on Facebook and it looks like a lot of work! I love to cook but I hate to clean. I had a 'mama-san' in Japan who came in once a week and that woman was cleaning machine! She hated to cook, which drove her husband crazy. She and I would have made a great team: I could do the cooking and she could do the cleaning and everyone would have been happy :-)

  2. Hi Gretchen!
I have to echo Linee's comments about being really impressed with your progress!! 48 lbs is incredible and I hope you are proud of yourself because you should be! :)

I had to laugh - you said the weather was a bit naff!!!! LOL!!! Very British!!

Looking forward to hearing more and getting inspired to eat better myself!
    Love

    1. Jen, I thought you'd enjoy the "naff" :-) I've been following your (and David's and Emily's) running on Facebook and I have to say, you guys make me tired--but keep up the good work! I've mostly been concentrating on the diet sice of things up til now, but my knee is starting to feel better. There's also an exercise part to this and I do a little each day but not as much as I should. I'm going to try getting a bit more in and when I get to about 60 lbs down (not all that far away!) I want to be doing all of the 'obliged' program each day. That's my next milestone, anyway.
